Btw, Swan is hearing his own singing voice (outside his own head) for the first time in 20 years. Remember, all recordings of his voice sound scratchy and gravelly because of his contract.
Most impactful musical moment in the film for me, the broken-up otherworldly-ness the artifical voicebox give the vocals. It feels like he's so desperate to express himself again that the mangled ghost of his vocal cords return to him, it sounds like pure fucking determination. And then slowly, as Winslow is too caught up in his own song to realise, Swan simply pastes his own casual singing voice over it. Brilliant, utterly brilliant. I watched this film for the first time today and while it is rough around the edges dear god the raw creativity and passion is insane.
It's funny because Swan's solution is to put more filters on, when the whole reason he sound like that is because he's going through a ring mod and a few other things, which is why he kind of sounds like a Dalek.
This is my favourite scene in the whole film The man who lost everything still sings his heart out I haven't played music in years but this movie has rekindled a passion
I love seeing all of the vintage recording equipment in this film. I spy a few Ampex and Scully multitrack reel-to-reel recorders and I see they’re recording on a sixteen-track, two-inch tape 3M M79 recorder. There’s a few mess-ups in the editing, though. Not trying to be a picky/snobby jerk, but Paul/Swan did not activate Dolby noise reduction or “filters” when he pressed those set of buttons or turned those potentiometers. The “filters” looked like he was he was adding effects sends to certain channels on the mixing console, which could be plausible if he was adding a “filter” to a singular mono vocal track, but it looks like he sent it to around four tracks. Winslow’s voice emulator and Paul/Swan’s vocals (single or double tracked) wouldn’t take up more than three tracks theoretically. On the “Dolbys” part, that was simply Paul activating recording on certain tracks on a Scully reel-to-reel. Wait, isn’t that a different machine than the one that’s rolling tape? The one that’s rolling tape is a 3M. That would mean that he was just rolling tape aimlessly until he pressed the record buttons until the near end of the current take. Plus, he activated the record buttons on a different machine than the one that was rolling tape. Gee, that was very smart writing! 🙄🤣 Either way. It was an underrated film and not EVERYTHING has to be accurate on it, especially on a scene like this where not many people genuinely care about what is going on in the recording aspect.
I don't know the Context .I don't know wth is happening but that looks like a love-child of Edna mode-Elton John and the other looks like a birb which needs to be protected at all costs.
FILTERS like todays pop dumplings

He's not a robot

so true
I think the robot version carries the tragedy of the storyline best take away the filters ❤
It's Swan version with a ton of filters
More filters 😂😂😂😂
Autotune 1974, but the joke is, the didn't need it 1974...
Ring Modulator (as heard on Dr Who Daleks) and other electronic effects are added to the vocal to garble it at the start.
Daft were influenced by this film, and there's actually a Moog etc. there, so how about a Daft / Moog rock version of this song??
"Tasty, Winslow, Tasty."
what's funny about this scene is that Paul Wiliams corrects his own voice..
Whats griffith doing here?
Making sure Casca sings the song he wrote and no one else. But gets tricked in to selling he's instead by Paul Williams. Lol
this scene is still one of my favorite musical moments in a film
Putting Swan in perspective, he would go on to compose almost every iconic movie theme we know and produce Daft Punk. A giant indeed.
Did this scene inspire anyone to go into sound design?
this need a very good remix
Cette scène a dû chambouler les Daft Punk à l'époque
Oh, wait, what if I turned the ring modulators off ? Yeah, that's this button on the mixing board...
Marilyn Manson ripped off this look 😂
Swan tunes the phantom to his own voice and then he says perfect.
FEMTO!
The way he says Phoenix plays everyday in my head 24/7
❤ for avocado shag carpet.
darth vador
One of my top 10 movies of all time!
This is my favourite scene in the whole film The man who lost everything still sings his heart out I haven't played music in years but this movie has rekindled a passion
Filters Dolbys *_Perfect._*
Daft Punk brought me here from RAM, and Paul Williams is a legend for this ❤
Was that a Robot or Winslow?
Winslow - but in this case voiced by Paul Williams himself for the singing...
My 2 Nephews Who Are Now 18 And 23 Was Shown This Movie In 2009 Still Love It!!!!
Best Vocaloid
Yes, Swann gave to Winslow his own voice.
Bro think he's Griffith 💀
This was way before the berserk manga, But I still see it. 💀
Masterpice , excellent, trust me

Great film from a great director. Phoenix!
This scene is so hypnotic
Just finished watching this film for the first time on the FXM Channel at 3:30 am.

The way swan's "perfect" voice is his own

man in just 40 years he woulda been annihilating on the vocaloid scene.
